The Next
Step Montessori Nursery School Inc. offers
a Montessori program, providing an inviting and stimulating
learning environment in which the child can develop skills through
exploration and discovery.
Circle Time
(20 minutes)
This is a time for the children
and teachers to discuss and exchange important information about
themselves and the day's events. The children also
participate in calendar and weather activities that develop
various number concepts such as patterning, sequencing, graphing
and counting.
Student
Directed / Teacher Directed Activities (80 minutes)The children will have the
opportunity to choose any activity from the following centres:
- Practical life
exercises assist children in learning to take
care of themselves, each other and their environment.
- Sensorial activities provide specific opportunities for
exploration to order, broaden and refine sense perceptions.
- Language exercises nourish the children's vocabulary, enhancing
self-expression and developing reading and writing skills.
- Mathematical materials offer an exciting concrete experience of
number concepts and operations.
- Cultural subjects including Science, Geography, History, Art and
Music deepen children's awareness of the world around them.

Snack (15
minutes)
A nutritious snack will be
provided by a parent volunteer. During this time, we will
be promoting language and social development as well as sensory
awareness. The children will have the opportunity to try
new foods and develop good eating habits.
Circle
Time (15 minutes)
During this time, the children
will be engaged in stories, songs and finger plays. These
activities promote all aspects of literature, encourage the
appreciation of reading and develop language and social skills.
The Next
Step Montessori Nursery School Inc. has
a classroom designed to give the child freedom to make choices
in an environment prepared with attractive materials. Our
classrooms are divided up into separate, but related areas.
