Health & Administration of Medicine

All staff members are trained in Emergency First Aid and C.P.R. The first aid kit is located in the classroom.

The Next Step Nursery School, Inc. recommends that each child be immunized prior to admission as outlined by the Manitoba Department of Health. We require a photocopy of your child’s immunization record to be submitted with your registration form.

In the event of an accident or extreme illness, the parents or contact person will be notified and the child will be taken to Emergency. All parents must complete the authorization on the registration form.

In the best interest of all the children at The Next Step Nursery School, Inc., a child should be kept home if they are sick with any of the following symptoms:

• cold that hinders daily functioning
• fever
• cough and fever
• sore throat
• earache
• swollen neck/glands
• unexplained skin rash/eruption
• digestive upset – vomiting and diarrhea

When a child is absent from school for any reason, the staff should be informed by telephone. It is also suggested that the parents prepare and arrange for emergency backup childcare in anticipation of these situations.

Staff will not give medications such as Tylenol, antibiotics, etc. As your child is only at nursery school a short time, medications can be administered at home. Only emergency medications such as Epi-pens, will be administered by staff when proper medical documentation has been completed. Emergency medications are to be kept on the child.
